“Suckers and Losers” -#45
In 2019 I had the privilege to visit Normandy, France.
What a humbling experience.
And even on the beautiful summer day my visit occurred upon, the somber trek across the former battlefields my fellow servicemembers shed blood on and died on for the cause of fighting fascism, reminds me how much we all have to be truly grateful for.
Not sure how else to write that.
And yes, during that year of living and traveling in Europe, I lied to people during chance contact that I was Canadian, because of the asshole we had “serving” as our commander and cheat during that time. Although it was entirely appropriate to render respect to our northern neighbors as their country also sacrificed greatly during World War II and the 6 June D-Day invasion. And who knew years later I myself would serve alongside one of the most adept and professional Canadian Army combat leaders in Persia Minor.
But I mostly wore that cap because I was so ashamed of our country at that point.
Who the fuck calls people offering their ultimate sacrifice in selfless service suckers and losers? Who the fuck supports that person saying it? Supporting, tacitly, complicitly, or openly? Answer. A person of poor character, void of integrity, spineless, feckless…not deserving of being on the same field of battle almost 80 years later…or ever! Especially in France, a member of NATO, the very alliance as tribute to the efforts on D-Day, yet poor character compels supporting the battle cry to dismantle such a very vital institution offering no solution except to offer land to a Soviet Putin. What the fuck! Those individuals know who they are, and they can fuck all the way off! I swear I heard that edict from the grave of the unknown warrior I knelt next to, to share my booze. “Fuck off Hitler…fuck off Trump…” a whisper overheard through the trees in the background.
Suckers and losers may be what Donald J(ail) Trump calls veterans, but the real suckers are those who will cast a vote for him or any Republican this November.

Hell yeah. Great column! I truly do not understand anyone supporting the candidate who called those who died in service to their country "suckers and losers".
“Our commander and cheat.” That’s a good one. I definitely understand why you wanted people to think you were Canadian.
And yes, Trump can definitely fuck all the way off for calling dead American soldiers “suckers and losers.”
